August 9, 2014

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets used a strong start from Rainy Lara to top the Harrisburg Senators, 3-1, on Saturday night at Metro Bank Park. Lara went 7-2/3 scoreless innings and struck out four. Brian Burgamy went 2-for-4 with two RBI to extend his hitting streak to a season-long 13 games.

For the second straight night, Binghamton took the lead in the first. Dilson Herrera hit a solo home run off of John Simms over the left-field wall with one out to put the road team on top, 1-0.

The B-Mets added to that total in the third. Rainy Lara and Brandon Nimmo hit back-to-back singles to put two on with nobody out. After a fly out, Brian Burgamy smacked a two-run double to right field to extend the Binghamton advantage to 3-0.

Harrisburg finally got on the board in the ninth against Cody Satterwhite. Jason Martinson made it all the way to third base on an error by Darrell Ceciliani at third base. He came home on an Adrian Sanchez pinch-hit single to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Lara (6-4) has allowed just one earned run between his last two starts. Simms (2-4) went six frames and allowed three runs on eight hits. Jon Velasquez got the tying run out in the eighth inning to keep the Senators at bay. Satterwhite picked up his 13th save of the season.

The B-Mets (71-48) wrap up their series with the Senators at 2:00 PM on Sunday. LHP Steven Matz goes for Binghamton, while RHP James Simmons takes the mound for Harrisburg.
