Clippers shut out by the IronPigs

Columbus falls in series opener

COLUMBUS, OH- The Columbus Clippers (65-58) fell to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (58-65) 4-0 after the game was delayed 45 minutes to start the game Monday night. Once the skies cleared up the IronPigs flew to the win with great pitching from a spot starter and the bullpen. Michael Bourn went 1-4 with a single and ran well in his rehab start for the Clippers and was the DH.

Zach McAllister (6-1, 1.82 ERA) notched his seventh quality start, but the Clippers lost for the first time in his eight starts. McAllister went six innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Ethan Martin (2-1, 4.12 ERA) picked up the win pitching three and one-third scoreless out of the bullpen.

Jeff Manship (0-0, 4.50 ERA) made his second spot start for Lehigh Valley and was effective. He pitched three and two-third innings of scoreless ball with five hits allowed with three walks and three strikeouts, but didn't factor into the decision.

The IronPigs got on the board with a sacrifice fly in the second. Russ Canzler started the inning with a double and got to third on a sacrifice bunt. Tony Gwynn, Jr. drove in the run.

Lehigh Valley squeezed out a second run in the fifth. With Giovanny Urshela playing back at third with two outs Freddy Galvis dropped down a bunt down the line and Cam Perkins scored on the play.

Russ Canzler doubled the IronPigs lead in the eighth with a two-run homer to left.

Danny Salazar (3-6, 4.02 ERA) starts game two of the series for the Clippers. He will go up against Jo-Jo Reyes (1-2, 9.72 ERA) at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
