August 12, 2014

Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Cubs split a doubleheader with the Brevard County Manatees on Tuesday at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

After falling 5-1 in game one, the Cubs utilized a late-inning rally to walk-off on the 'Tees 3-2 in the seventh inning of game two.

With runners on first and second with no outs in the seventh, 2B Gioskar Amaya dropped a bunt down the third base line. RHP Taylor Williams looked a third as if he was going to throw there to get the force out, but 3B Brandon Macias had charged in to field the ball so nobody was covering the bag. After Williams realized that he did not have a play at third base, he rushed his throw to first and threw the ball into right field, allowing C Chadd Krist to score the game-winning run.

RHP Taylor Scott was strong again for the Cubs in game two. Coming in having allowed only three earned runs over his last three starts (17 IP), Scott worked six of the seven innings, and surrendered the two runs on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Yao-Lin Wang (W, 3-5), who was activated between games, earned the victory with a 1-2-3 seventh. Wang has won his last three decisions and has not lost a game over his last 13 appearances.

Williams pitched the complete game for the Manatees in his second start since a promotion from A-Wisconsin. He surrendered the three runs (two earned) on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

1B Dan Vogelbach and RF Bijan Rademacher both went 2-for-3 for Daytona, and Krist finished 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI double and the game-winning run.

In game one, RHP Juan Paniagua (L, 1-3) struggled for Daytona. He surrendered five runs (three earned) on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 3.2 innings.

LHP Nathan Dorris and RHP Michael Jensen finished the game with 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

2B Gioskar Amaya and CF Jacob Hannemann both went 2-for-3 for the Cubs.

RHP Tyler Wagner improved to 12-5 on the season after not surrendering an earned run over six innings. Wagner lowered his 2014 ERA to 1.68.

With the split, the Cubs remain 3.5 games ahead of the idle Tampa Yankees in the FSL North. The Cubs and Manatees will play a doubleheader in Viera on Thursday after a Wednesday day off.
