Dust Devils Close Out Series Win with Shutout

Four Tri-City Dust Devils pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout of the Spokane Indians in front of 3,164 fans Friday Night at Gesa Stadium. The Dust Devils (11-11 Second Half, 25-35 Overall) retook sole possession of first place in a game that lasted just two hours and six minutes, tied for the fastest game at Gesa Stadium this season.

Dust Devils starter Joel Payamps pitched his best outing of the season. Payamps went five scoreless innings and allowed just three hits and two walks. He tied his season high with five strikeouts.

Third baseman Shane Hoelscher was great at the plate for Tri-City. Hoelscher went 3-for-4 on the night. Shortstop Chris Rabago drove in the Dust Devils only run of the night. Rabago went 1-for-3 in the game.

Reliever Jerad McCrummen (4-1) was lights out for Tri-City. The Northwest League All-Star pitched two perfect innings and struck out a batter in the win. McCrummen tied John Sheehan for the team high in wins, getting his fourth win of the year Friday night.

Jacob Newberry made his Dust Devils debut Friday night in relief of Payamps. Newberry allowed a hit and no runs over an inning of work. Closer Scott Firth got the save, striking out a batter in a perfect inning of work.

Starting pitcher Derek Thompson struck out eight for the Indians (9-13 Second Half, 34-26 Overall). Thompson pitched six scoreless innings and allowed five hits and a walk. He would leave the game in a scoreless tie.

Nick Dignacco (2-2) took the loss for Spokane. Dignacco pitched two innings in relief of Thompson. He allowed a run on three hits and struck out four.

The Dust Devils will hit the road to play a three game series against the Indians in Spokane on Saturday. They will then go to Salem-Keizer to play a five game set with the Volcanoes before returning to Gesa Stadium to open a series with the Hillsboro Hops on Monday, August 25th. It will be Coca-Cola Monday presented by Coca-Cola. All 22-ounce Coca-Cola products will be on sale for just one dollar. Great seats are still available for the August 25th game.
