Jaye, Barons Escape With Series Win Over Generals

Myles Jaye allows two runs over 8.0 innings as Barons top Generals 6-5
August 17, 2014

The Birmingham Barons picked up a series victory with their third win in a row over the Jackson Generals, escaping with a 6-5 victory in front of 5,198 fans at Generals Park.

After Chris Curley's RBI double put the Barons ahead 2-0 in the third inning, the Generals would fight back to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom half of the frame on a solo home run by Patrick Brady and an RBI double by Tyler Smith. They would be the only two runs scored against starter Myles Jaye (4-10, 5.61) over 8.0 IP.

A three-run fifth propelled the Barons back into the lead as Curley struck again with a solo home run and Rangel Ravelo and Kevan Smith followed with RBI hits giving the Barons a 5-2 lead. Ravelo provided a key insurance run in the seventh with an RBI single and finished 2-for-3 on the night.

The Generals scored three runs in the ninth inning, cutting the Barons lead to 6-5 but Brandon Hardin was able to end the game with the lead intact as the Barons improved to 55-70 on the season and 26-29 in the second half while Jackson fell to 56-68 on the year and 25-30 in the second half.

The Barons return home Sunday to begin a five-game series against the Chattanooga Lookouts. First pitch on Sunday is scheduled for 6:00 PM CDT.
