Legends Even Series In Extras

Lexington wins 5-4 on 10th inning error
August 19, 2014

Lexington, KY - The Delmarva Shorebirds went to extra innings for the second straight night, this time losing 5-4 to the Lexington Legends. Delmarva (63-65) committed a decisive error to allow the winning run across in the tenth inning on Tuesday night.

Delmarva led for most of the game with a four-run fourth inning. Creede Simpson split the right-center gap for an RBI double, followed by an RBI single by Chance Sisco. With two outs, Jared Breen belted a two-run double to give Delmarva a 4-1 lead.

Lexington fought their way back against Shorebirds' starter Mitch Horacek. Alexis Rivera delivered an RBI double in the fifth to make it 4-2. The Legends tied it up on a two-out two-run double by Alfredo Escalera in the seventh inning.

Derrick Bleeker worked out of several tight situations to keep the game tied. The Shorebirds' reliever stranded the go-ahead run on third base in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. In the ninth, Bleeker worked around a leadoff triple to force extras.

In the tenth, Lexington finally broke through for the walkoff win. After a double and an infield single, Lexington had runners on the corners with one out. Dylan Rheault got the strikeout, and then induced a ground ball to short. Jared Breen's throw to first was low, and Simpson could not pick it off the bounce.

Tim Hill earned the win in relief, while Dylan Rheault took the loss on the unearned run. The Shorebirds are now two games under .500 on the season, 63-65 with 11 games left on the year.

The Shorebirds and Legends play the rubber match on Wednesday evening. Janser Severino (3-2, 4.66) starts for Delmarva against Lexington righty Luke Farrell (1-12, 5.17). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
