17 Hit Attack Leads Savannah to Win

August 20, 2014

The Savannah Sand Gnats defeated the Rome Braves 11-3 Tuesday night at State Mutual Stadium. The Sand Gnats had 17 hits en route to the victory.

Savannah got out of the gate early with two runs in the first inning on an RBI triple by Champ Stuart and an RBI groundout by Matt Oberste. They added three more runs in the second on a three run homer by Yeixon Ruiz (5) for the 5-0 lead.

Rome would make it a 5-1 game in the fourth thanks to a Reed Harper RBI groundout but that would be as close as the Braves would get. The Sand Gnats added four runs in the sixth and two in the eighth for the 11-3 win. Victor Cruzado had four RBI in the game for Savannah.

Robert Whalen (8-1) gets the win and Steve Janas (2-6) the loss. Paul Paez earns his first save.
