Jason Roberts Named PCL Trainer Of The Year

Round Rock Trainer Has Been With the Rangers Organization since 2007

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Jason Roberts of the Round Rock Express has been named the 2014 Pacific Coast League Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS), the league announced Thursday.

The Athletic Trainer of the Year award was earned by Roberts after being selected by his peers. He is now among the 17 league winners across Minor League Baseball to be considered for Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year, which will be announced at the Winter Meetings this upcoming December in San Diego, CA.

In July, Roberts was selected as the PCL's athletic trainer for the Triple-A All-Star Game in Durham, North Carolina. The All-Star Game appearance was his first in his six seasons working at the Triple-A level.

Roberts has been with the Express since the team became a Texas Rangers affiliate in 2011. Prior to that, he spent two seasons as athletic trainer for the Oklahoma City RedHawks, the Rangers affiliate at the time. He served in the same capacity at Double-A Frisco from 2007-08. The Canberra, Australia native spent the five years prior as a trainer in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization with the GCL Dodgers (2002-04), Columbus Catfish (2005) and the Vero Beach Dodgers (2006). Prior to the 2013 season, Roberts worked with the Australian team in the World Baseball Classic.

Roberts received his bachelor's degree in athletic training from Middle Tennessee State in 2001, where he also pitched for two years. Prior to coming to the US, Roberts played in the Australian Professional League for two seasons with the Canberra Bushrangers and Hunter Eagles, and was also a member of the Australian Junior Olympic squad that played in the 1994 World Championships in Brandon, Canada.
