Cubs Recall Rosscup and Watkins; Vitters Lands on DL

Reno, NV - The Chicago Cubs recalled LH Zac Rosscup and INF Logan Watkins today and placed INF Josh Vitters on the disabled list. LH Jeff Antigua returns to the I-Cubs from double-A Tennessee and INF Andrew Ely joins Iowa from rookie Mesa.

This is Rosscup's fifth stint with Chicago this season. He is 2-0 with a 2.10 ERA (7ER/30.0IP) and four saves in 29 games with Iowa this year. In his previous stints with Chicago, he has no record and a 7.50 ERA (5ER/6.0IP) in seven appearances.

This is Watkins' first call-up to Chicago this year. He is batting .256 (81-for-316) with 20 doubles, four home runs, 59 runs scored, and 23 stolen bases in 101 games with Iowa this year. Watkins made his major league debut with Chicago last year in August. He hit .211 (8-for-38) with a double and two runs scored in 27 games to finish the season.

Vitters suffered a broken ring finger on his right hand while reaching for second base on an awkward slide in last night's game. Vitters is batting .213 (80-for-375) with 14 doubles, 11 home runs, and 38 RBI in 112 games with Iowa this year.

Antigua was with Iowa from April 24-June 11 this year and was 1-0 with a 3.06 ERA (6ER/17.2IP) in 10 games before he was reassigned to Tennessee. He appeared in nine games, including four starts, with the Smokies and was 0-2 with a 3.58 ERA (13ER/32.2IP).

The Cubs drafted Ely in the 32nd round of this year's draft out of the University of Washington. In 25 games at rookie-Mesa he hit .326 (28-for-86) with four doubles, four home runs, and seven RBI. He hit .300 (62-for-207) with three homers and 34 RBI in 59 games for the Huskies his junior season and led the nation with 26 sacrifice bunts. He was named to the All Pac-12 and to the All Pac-12 Defensive Team.

The Cubs take on the Reno Aces in game two of a four-game series tonight at 9:05 PM Central Time at Aces Ballpark. RH Dan Straily (7-6, 4.06) will start for the Cubs against RH Mike Bolsinger (8-3, 3.77) for the Aces. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and 104.5 FM, and also streamed live at iowacubs.com with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 8:40 p.m.
