Big Series Opens With Thud

Baysox Shutout in Richmond in Series Opener 3-0
August 22, 2014

With the days remaining in the 2014 season dwindling, Bowie came into Richmond needing a big series to vault back into the conversation in the Eastern league Western Division chase. On Friday night in the series opener, early opportunities slipped away from Bowie in a tough 3-0 loss in the series opener.

Bowie had two hits in the first, a runner in scoring position in the second inning and the bases loaded with one down in the third but could not break through. Richmond would do so in the fourth inning.

CF Elliot Blair reached on a fielding error and came around to score on a fly ball lost in the lights to right field off of the bat of 2B Blake Miller. Later in the inning, 3B Devin Harris would double home a second run in the inning.

The Baysox could not get anything going after the third inning against Richmond starter Clayton Blackburn (4-5). He threw seven shutout innings striking out nine batters in the game.

Bowie starter Zach Davies was strong in defeat allowing three runs, two of which earned in 5 and 1/3rd innings. RHP Gene Escat worked a scoreless inning in his Eastern league debut for the Baysox. Richmond's magic number for their first postseason berth in three years is now at just four.

Saturday, August 23rd the series continues with knuckleballer Eddie Gamboa on the hill. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. with coverage beginning 20-minutes prior on wnav.com.

Bowie will return for a four-game series Labor Day Weekend with the Altoona Curve Friday, August 29th. Fireworks will follow the August 30th game. Sunday and Monday will be 2:05 p.m. starts.
