Las Vegas Completes Sweep Of Express

Round Rock Returns to Dell Diamond Thursday to Begin Final Homestand
August 28, 2014

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Las Vegas 51s (80-60) finished off their sweep of the Round Rock Express (67-71) Wednesday night, ending the E-Train's rough visit to Cashman Field with an 8-3 loss.

For the third straight game, the 51s used a big second inning to take control Wednesday. Express alum 1B Taylor Teagarden grounded a single through the left side to lead off the inning then scored when C Kevin Plawecki clubbed his first home run of the night over the left field wall. Later in the inning, with runners on the corners, SS Matt Reynolds ripped a two-run double to left. 3B Josh Satin followed with a two-base knock of his own to give Vegas a 5-0 advantage.

The Express got on the board with a run in the fifth as DH Drew Robinson, 3B Josh Wilson and CF Ryan Strausborger rattled off base hits in succession. Las Vegas neutralized the E-Train's run in the home half, however, as Plawecki homered for a second time to make it 6-1. Plawecki, who finished with four hits in the game, now has five home runs this season.

Round Rock cut their deficit to 6-3 in the eighth, but would draw no closer. SS Luis Sardinas reached on an infield single to begin the inning and advanced to second on a base hit by LF Ryan Rua. With two outs, 1B J.R. Towles brought both Sardinas and Rua around to score with a double to left.

The 51s added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to bring the final score to 8-3. 2B Daniel Muno drew a lead-off walk and scored on an Anthony Seratelli double. After moving to third base on a wild pitch, Seratelli tallied Las Vegas's eighth run on a Matt Reynolds sacrifice fly to right.

Express LHP Jimmy Reyes (1-2, 9.00 ERA) took the loss in the first start of his professional career after enduring the eventful second inning. Reyes struck out four in three innings of work. 51s starter RHP Noah Syndergaard (9-7, 4.67 ERA) got the win after permitting one run on seven hits in 6.2 innings.

Round Rock's Robinson, who was promoted from Double-A Frisco on Sunday, went 3-for-4 with a double and two stolen bases to pace the E-Train at the plate. Sardinas, Rua and Wilson each chipped in with two-hit performances.

The Express will be back in Round Rock Thursday to begin their final homestand of the season with the Nashville Sounds. LHP Derek Holland (1-1, 6.52 ERA) is expected to take the ball for the E-Train in game one of the six-game series against Nashville RHP Donovan Hand (4-7, 5.05 ERA). Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. on Pink in the Park Night at Dell Diamond. Express players and coaches will don special pink uniforms that will be auctioned off with the proceeds benefitting Komen Austin.
