Nuts Miss Opportunities in 6-2 Loss

Modesto, CA. - The Nuts stranded 10 in their sixth straight loss, falling 6-2 against the Ports on Sunday night at John Thurman Field.  

In the second inning, the Nuts (19-50; 42-97) had their best scoring chance when they loaded the bases against Ports (47-21; 85-54) starter Jake Sanchez. The righty proceeded to strike out Derek Jones and Matt Wessinger before Alex San Juan grounded out to end the threat. In the fourth and eighth innings, the Nuts left two runners on finishing 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Jonathon Joseph (W, 7-3) threw well out of the 'pen for the Ports working four scoreless innings allowing only two hits.

Ben Alsup (L, 3-14) gave up six hits and three runs in the first two innings before settling down and finishing off six frames. The righty turned in four scoreless innings and allowed only two more hits after the rocky start.

The Ports recorded three RBI singles in the first two innings before Matt Olson opened it up by clubbing a three-run shot in the seventh.

The final game of the year is Sunday afternoon with Matt Flemer on the mound for the Nuts and Dylan Covey throwing for the Ports.
