Hooks Slam Sinks Missions

September 2, 2014

CORPUS CHRISTI-A season of what-ifs and missed opportunities came to an end for the Missions Sunday afternoon as the Hooks staged a late-inning comeback in front of 5,859 at Whataburger Field.

The Missions took a 4-3 lead on Jake Lemmerman's two-run homer in the seventh inning but a wild Adys Portillo gave it right back in the bottom of the frame.

After retiring the first two batters in the inning, Portillo walked four straight to force in the tying run.

Michael Dimock relieved Portillo and served up a grandslam to Brandon Meredith that sealed the Missions fate.

San Antonio closed out the year going 24-34 over their final 58 games after going 34-23 from May through June. They ended the year at 68-72.

The Missions had a lead in the seventh inning or later in 11 of their final 34 defeats
