Sisco Named Postseason All-Star

Honored as top catcher in the South Atlantic League

Salisbury, MD - The South Atlantic League announced their postseason All-Star team for the 2014 season over the Labor Day weekend. Chance Sisco got the nod, representing the Shorebirds as the only catcher selected for the All-Star squad.

The South Atlantic League All-Star team selects the top player for each position for the whole season. Managers and coaches from all 14 teams vote on the postseason awards, including All-Stars, MVP and top MLB prospect.

Sisco won the South Atlantic League batting title with a .340 average, besting Willians Astudillo of the Lakewood BlueClaws by seven points. Sisco's .340 batting average set the Shorebirds team record, surpassing the previous record by twenty points, held by Richie Paz since 1998. The Shorebirds catcher also led the league with a .406 on-base percentage.

In addition to winning the league batting crown, Sisco collected 63 RBIs, second on the team behind only Conor Bierfeldt with 67. The 19-year-old belted 27 doubles, tied for second on the team, and five home runs, third on the team.

On August 30th, Sisco nearly capped off his fantastic season with a cycle, ending a single shy of the feat. Sisco went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and home run, but his line drive in the eighth inning was caught by a leaping effort from Hickory shortstop Luis Marte.

Another highlight of Sisco's season was his 18-game hitting streak from June 30th to July 18th, the longest by a Shorebird since 2005. Over the course of those three weeks, Sisco batted .408 (31-for-76) with five doubles, one triple and one home run. Sisco racked up 17 runs driven in and 14 runs scored over that timeframe. The backstop recorded eight multi-hit games during the lengthy streak.

Sisco becomes the first Shorebird named to the South Atlantic League postseason All-Star team since outfielder Ronnie Welty in 2009. The Orioles selected Sisco in the 2nd round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of Santiago High School in Corona, California. Sisco is currently ranked as the #3 prospect in the Baltimore Orioles' organization, behind pitchers Dylan Bundy and Hunter Harvey.
