Missed Chances Haunt Rawhide in Game 2 Loss

September 13, 2014

VISALIA--The Rawhide squandered several scoring chances, Tyler White hit a 2-run homer, and Lancaster evened the California League Finals with a 3-0 win over Visalia on Friday night at Rawhide Ballpark.

John Omahen threw well for the 'Hide, allowing no runs over the first 5 innings. Visalia had a leadoff triple in the bottom of the 3rd, but Andrew Velazquez was then thrown out trying to score on a throw to first base; the ball was relayed home, beating Velazquez for a double play.

The Rawhide put 2 on in the 4th, but hit into a double play. Lance McCullers pitched scorelessly into the 7th, mixing his pitches and keeping Visalia off-balance throughout. And in the top of the 6th, Lancaster took the lead.

A leadoff walk to Rio Ruiz brought up Tyler White, who blasted a fastball over the wall in left-center for a 2-run homer, and it was 2-0 JetHawks.

The 'Hide missed a glorious opportunity in the bottom of the 7th; after back-to-back singles by Alex Glenn and George Roberts, Socrates Brito looped a ball into center field for another base hit. It appeared that the Rawhide would have the bases loaded with nobody out...but Glenn ran through a stop sign and was easily thrown out at home plate. The Rawhide then loaded the bases, but Velazquez and pinch-hitter Raul Navarro both struck out, and the chance was wasted.

Lancaster added a run in the top of the 9th; Chan Moon singled, was bunted to 2nd, and scored on an RBI double by Jack Mayfield. That brought the scoreline to 3-0, which would be the final.

The Rawhide now travel to Lancaster for Games 3, 4, and 5 (if necessary). Game 3 will begin tomorrow at 6:00; listen live online at RawhideBaseball.com, or on terrestrial radio at Living Water Radio, AM1270!
