Roster Report: Free Agent and Winter Ball Updates

November 24, 2014

The San Diego Padres made changes to their 40-man roster on November 20th. INF Taylor Lindsey was one of the Padres minor leaguers added to the 40-man roster. Lindsey joined the El Paso Chihuahuas in late July after being traded from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the Huston Street deal.

Three former Chihuahuas were removed from the 40-man roster. RHP Blaine Boyer and OF Yeison Asencio were designated for assignment and could now be claimed on waivers by any other Major League organization. Former El Paso OF Reymond Fuentes was traded to the Kansas City Royals for minor league LHP Kyle Bartsch.

The Texas Rangers made a swap involving former Chihuahuas OF Daniel Robertson. He was sent from the Rangers to the Angels in exchange for cash considerations. It's understandable if El Pasoans don't remember Robertson. He appeared in just five games for the Chihuahuas, all on the road.

In free agency news, former Chihuahuas INF/OF Jonathan Galvez (pictured above) signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees last week.

A few weeks ago, we shared updates on Chihuahuas in the Dominican Winter League. There are also members of the 2014 team currently in the Mexican Pacific League:

  • LHP Juan Oramas has made nine starts for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo, posting a 4-2 record and 3.16 ERA. Oramas has struck out 40 batters and walked 16.
  • 1B/C Cody Decker joined the Tomateros de Culiacan at mid-season and has hit .188 in 14 games with two doubles and three RBIs.
  • OF Rico Noel has stolen 12 bases in 22 games for Culiacan and has a .224 batting average.
  • RHP Jorge Reyes is also playing for Culiacan and has a 1-1 record with a 3.86 ERA in six games. Reyes was the winning pitcher in the first ever Chihuahuas game on April 3, 2014 and is now part of the Atlanta Braves organization.
