I-Cubs add Antigua, Brown to roster for Opening Day

Baez, Ortiz inactive for opening game in Memphis
April 9, 2015

The Iowa Cubs have made a series of roster moves ahead of tonight's season opener in Memphis. Left-hander Jeff Antigua and outfielder Kevin Brown have been added to the roster and will be active. Infielder Javy Baez has been placed on the temporary inactive list and left-hander Joe Ortiz has been placed on the suspended list.

Antigua joins Iowa for the third time in three seasons. The 24-year-old made 16 appearances with the I-Cubs in 2013, including one start. He went 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA in 40.0 innings. He joined Iowa in late April in 2014 and went on to make 13 appearances out of the bullpen with a 4.37 ERA in 22.2 innings. Antigua was signed by the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent in 2006.

Brown comes to the team from Single-A South Bend. He hit a combined .261 with five home runs and 37 RBI in 62 games between Short-A Boise, Single-Kane County and Double-A Tennessee in 2014. He made his professional debut in 2013, splitting the season between Rookie-level Mesa and Boise. The 24-year-old was drafted by the Cubs in the 22nd round of the 2013 June draft out of Bryant (RI) College.
