Cubs drop rain-shortened game to Oklahoma City

April 19, 2015

DES MOINES, IA - A day after being postponed due to rain, the Iowa Cubs (4-5) dropped a rain-shortened affair 4-0 to the Oklahoma City Dodgers (8-2) Pacific Coast League action at Principal Park Sunday.

Righty Barret Loux (0-1) took the loss, giving up his only run of the game in the first inning on a Kyle Jensen RBI-single. Loux struck out five, walked three and gave up three hits.

Right-hander Joe Wieland (2-0) picked up his second win in as many appearances, striking out five while allowing only two hits in a complete-game, five-inning victory. He squandered doubles from centerfielder Adron Chambers and right fielder Rubi Silva. The I-Cubs only managed one other base runner thanks to a Darwin Barney throwing error allowing third baseman Christian Villanueva to reach base in the top of the fifth.

Being confined by pitch count, Loux was replaced by left-hander Hunter Cervenka, making his first appearance with the I-Cubs, in the top of the sixth. Cervenka labored in his first appearance, loading the bases after a single and two walks. The left-hander retired Iowa-native Scott Schebler to get the second out of the top of the sixth, before right-hander Armando Rivero took over and allowed all three runners to score on wild pitch and an RBI-double.

Silva and Chambers were the only I-Cubs batters to reach on a hit, both going 1-for-2. Addison Russell committed his third error this season while fielding a throw from Loux on a bunt coverage play.

Carson led the Dodgers with two RBI. Jensen paced OKC with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, including an RBI and a run scored.

The Cubs and Dodgers will play games three and four of their four game set Monday afternoon with the first game of the doubleheader starting at 12:08 p.m. CT at Principal Park. Right-hander Carlos Pimentel (0-1, 12.27) is set to start game one against right-hander Scott Baker (0-1, 1.80). For game two, the Cubs will send right-hander Yoanner Negrin (0-0, 3.00) against OKC left-hander Rudy Owens (0-1, 1.80). Both games will be broadcast live on AM 940, 104.5 FM and streamed live at iowacubs.com with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 11:40 a.m. CT.
