Missions Rally Comes up Short

April 25, 2015

MIDLAND--The Missions nearly erased a four-run ninth inning deficit in the opening game of a four game series Thursday night in front of 4,504 at Security Bank Ballpark.

San Antonio entered the ninth having been held to one run on three hits. A key Midland error helped fuel a three-run rally, which was snuffed out when Trea Turner flied to right for the final out, leaving runners at second and third.

Missions starter Bryan Rodriguez (0-3) was roughed up for all five runs on eight hits over five innings, including four doubles. Three relievers held the Rockhounds to a pair of hits over the final three frames.

The Missions entered play with a league-low 34 runs through their first 12 games. It marked just the fifth time the club scored more than three runs.

It was the first meeting of the year between the division rivals. Midland won 12 of 16 one-run games against San Antonio en route to winning the Texas League title last season.

NOTES: Travis Jankowski and Trea Turner extended their hitting streaks to 10 games each, tied for the longest streak in the league this season...The Missions have lost 14 of the last 17 games against Midland dating to last season
