Aumont Shines as Pigs Top Bisons, 3-1

April 26, 2015

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs snapped their four-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Buffalo Bisons on Sunday afternoon. It was also the team's first win over Buffalo this season. Lehigh Valley is now 5-13 on the year while Buffalo drops to 12-5.

Making his first start in almost five years, RHP Phillippe Aumont (1-0) shined for the Pigs as he tossed five scoreless innings and allowed just three hits to go along with a pair of strikeouts. It was the first time since April 19, 2010 with Reading (AA) that Aumont pitched more than 2.0 IP and did not walk a batter. Sunday also marked his longest outing since that last start on September 2, 2010.

Darin Mastroianni (3-4, 2B, R) got things started for the Pigs in the home half of the first with a leadoff double, moved to third on a groundout and scored on Domonic Brown's RBI groundout.

Lehigh Valley loaded the bases with two outs in the third, but Bisons starter Andrew Albers wiggled his way out of it as he got Maikel Franco to ground into the shift to end the inning.

Albers lasted 6.1 innings and surrendered three runs on eight hits with a walk and two strikeouts, but was dealt the loss and falls to 1-3 on the season.

The IronPigs pushed a run across in the fifth as Chase d'Arnaud (2-3, 2B, R) doubled off the wall in right centerfield and scored on an RBI single from Tyler Henson to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.

Buffalo loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the sixth, but LHP Cesar Jimenez (0.1 IP, 3 H) and RHP Tyler Knigge (1.2 IP, 2 H) combined to get out of the jam as Andy Wilkins flied out against Jimenez and Knigge got Brad Glenn to ground into a 5-3 inning-ending double play.

Tommy Joseph provided some insurance for the Pigs in the bottom half of the sixth as he roped an RBI double into the gap that scored Chris Nelson from first and gave Lehigh Valley a 3-0 advantage.

The Bisons got a run in the top of the eighth as Chris Colabello continued his red-hot stretch with an RBI single that scored Ezequiel Carrera and cut the lead to 3-1. RHP Colton Murray (1.0 IP, H, R, BB, 2 K) was able to work his way out of the inning and avoid further damage.

RHP Seth Rosin tossed a scoreless ninth and struck out one to notch his first save of the season for the Pigs.

The IronPigs homestand continues on Monday night when the Durham Bulls come to town for a four game series. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and LHP Adam Morgan (0-2, 4.50) gets the ball for Lehigh Valley while RHP Matt Buschmann (1-1, 2.75) goes for Durham.
