April 26, 2015

CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs gave the Savannah Sand Gnats a scare in the ninth inning, but could not pull out another victory, and fell 4-2 in front of a crowd of 4,242 patrons Sunday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

The RiverDogs (12-6) plated two runs in the eighth to cut Savannah's lead to 3-2. Devin Bolasky walked and Abiatal Avelino singled. Then, Boalsky scored on a wild pitch and Avelino scored on a sacrifice fly by Jorge Mateo.

Savannah (6-11) added an extra run of insurance in the ninth inning when Pedro Perez hit an RBI double to right, scoring Tomas Nido. Shane Bay worked around Eduardo de Oleo's one-out base hit to close out the game and earn his first save of the season.

The Sand Gnats got on the board first with doubles by Pedro Perez and John Mora in the third inning. Jon Leroux blasted a two-run home run in the seventh to extend Savannah's lead to 3-0.

Justin Kamplain (1-2) and Martires Arias (2-0) both went seven innings in their starts. Kamplain allowed three earned runs in the loss while Arias held the RiverDogs scoreless to pick up the win.

Despite the loss, Charleston took three of four games in the homestand and look to continue their road success in Asheville with a three-game series starting Tuesday. The RiverDogs went 5-2 on their first road trip of the season.
