Nuts Edge 66ers for 5-3 Triumph

May 9, 2015

San Bernardino, CA. - The Modesto Nuts' pitching staff worked around trouble to snag a tight 5-3 win against the Inland Empire 66ers on Friday night at San Manuel Stadium.

In the ninth, the 66ers (13-15) brought the tying run to the plate after scoring a pair of runs, but Trent Daniel induced a fly ball to right field to end the game and get the Nuts (15-14) over .500 for the first time since August of 2013.

The Nuts staff allowed the 66ers just three hits in 13 at bats with runners in scoring position and stranded 10 opposing runners on base. Troy Nieman worked 1.1 scoreless innings but had to strand an inherited runner in sixth. He also worked around a pair of lead-off walks in a scoreless seventh inning.

Johendi Jiminian (W, 2-3) tossed 5.2 innings allowing just four hits and one run on a sac fly in his start for the Nuts.

The Nuts got to 66ers' starter Harrison Cooney (L, 1-2) for four runs in five innings. Wilfredo Rodriguez whacked a two-run single in the sixth. Dillon Thomas plated two runs with a sac fly in the second and a groundball in the sixth.

The Nuts go for their third straight series victory on Saturday night at San Manuel Stadium against the 66ers. It will be Harrison Musgrave on the mound for the Nuts. The 66ers will toss Garrett Nuss. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. To listen on your iPhone or iPad click here. For PC and Flash enabled Android phones click here
