IronPigs Drop Series Finale, 9-1

May 10, 2015

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (9-22) dropped the series finale to the Gwinnett Braves (15-15) by a score of 9-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Gwinnett struck first in the top of the second as Adonis Garcia led off with a double, advanced to third on Cedric Hunter's single and scored to give the Braves a 1-0 lead when Daniel Castro grounded into a 5-4-3 double play.

That would be the last run for either side until the top of the sixth as IronPigs RHP Severino Gonzalez and Braves RHP Matt Wisler traded zeroes over the next few innings.

A five-run sixth gave the G-Braves a 6-0 advantage. Jose Peraza drove in a pair of runs in the inning with a two-run single to score Wisler and Eury Perez who had started the inning with back-to-back singles. Garcia delivered the third run of the frame with an RBI double to plate Peraza and open up a 4-0 lead for the Braves. Castro knocked home a pair with an RBI single-his first Triple-A hit-to give the visitors a 6-0 lead.

Gonzalez (1-2) was tagged with the loss as he surrendered six runs on eight hits over 5.1 IP while walking one and fanning three.

Wisler (2-3) tossed eight innings and allowed one run on five hits while striking out a pair.

The Pigs were able to get to Wisler for their lone run of the day in the home half of the eighth as back-to-back doubles from John Hester (2-3, 2 2B, R)-in his team debut-and Tyler Henson cut the lead to 6-1.

Gwinnett added three runs in the ninth to extend the Braves lead to 9-1. Peraza drove in a run in the inning with an RBI double, Garcia plated one with an RBI single and Castro brought home a run with an RBI single of his own. All three runs were charged to Pigs LHP Nick Hill (1.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K).

RHP Tyler Knigge tossed 1.2 innings of hitless relief for the IronPigs.

Lehigh Valley will welcome the Columbus Clippers to town for a three-game set beginning Monday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Joely Rodriguez (0-3, 7.14) gets the ball for the Pigs while LHP Michael Roth (2-1, 2.40) takes the mound for the Clippers.
