Left-hander Tyler Ihrig promoted to Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Chicago Cubs today promoted left-handed pitcher Tyler Ihrig to Triple-A Iowa. Ihrig will wear No. 2, and is tonight's starting pitcher against the Nashville Sounds at Principal Park.

 

Ihrig, 23, was selected by Chicago in the 23rd round of the 2013 June draft out of the College of Marin in Kentfield, Calif. He joins Iowa today from Extended Spring Training.

 

The Monroe, Wash., native is 1-1 with a 2.16 ERA (4ER/16.2IP) and one save in six games for Single-A South Bend between April 17 and May 4 this season. He has struck out 12 and walked one.

 

Last season, Ihrig combined to go 7-3 with a 4.01 ERA (37ER/83.0IP) with 64 strikeouts and 14 walks in 16 games, including 13 starts, between Short-A Boise, Single-A Kane County and Advanced-A Daytona. He registered one save as well.

 

With this move, Iowa's active roster is now full at 25 players plus two major-league rehab assignments and one player on the disabled list.
