Pigs Fall to Clippers in 12 Innings, 3-2

May 13, 2015

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (10-24) dropped a 3-2 decision in 12 innings to the Columbus Clippers (19-14) on Wednesday morning.

An RBI infield single delivered by Tyler Holt in the top of the 12th gave the Clippers a 3-2 lead that they wouldn't relinquish. IronPigs RHP Hector Neris (2.0 IP, 3 H, R, ER, BB, K) was charged with the loss and drops to 1-3 on the season.

Columbus RHP Dustin Molleken (2.0 IP, 2 K) earned the win to improve his record to 2-0 on the season.

Lehigh Valley RHP Phillippe Aumont turned in the longest outing of his career with seven shutout innings but received a no-decision for his efforts.

Over his seven scoreless frames, Aumont allowed just five hits and fanned seven. The seven strikeouts marks the most for the crafty Canadian right-hander since he struck out seven on September 2, 2010 with Clearwater (A+).

In the home half of the third, the Pigs took a 1-0 lead as Brian Bogusevic (2-6, R) got aboard with a leadoff single, moved to second on a groundout and scored on Domonic Brown's RBI single that fell in between three Columbus defenders in shallow right centerfield.

The Clippers got that run back in the top of the ninth as Holt led off with a single, moved to second on a fly out to right, stole third with nobody covering the base and scored on a throwing error charged to IronPigs RHP Tyler Knigge (1.1 IP, 3 H, R, ER).

A solo shot from Alex Lavisky gave Columbus a 2-1 lead in the top of the tenth.

However, the Pigs would tie it with a run in the bottom of the tenth as Maikel Franco (2-4, RBI) came through in the clutch for the second game in a row with an RBI single to score Cord Phelps who had drawn a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sac bunt in the inning.

Columbus starter Shaun Marcum got a no-decision as he allowed one run on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts in 7.0 IP.

The Pigs will be back in action tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. when they take on the Rochester Red Wings at Frontier Field in Rochester. LHP Adam Morgan (0-4, 3.60) gets the start for Lehigh Valley against Red Wings RHP Alex Meyer (2-2, 7.62).
