Rangers Recall OF Jake Smolinski

Express Place C Chris Gimenez on Disabled List

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers have recalled Round Rock Express OF Jake Smolinski, the club announced Friday. Additionally, C/1B Chris Gimenez was placed on the disabled list at Round Rock. OF Carlos Arroyo and C Sherman Lacrus have been transferred to Round Rock from extended spring training.

Smolinski, 26, was optioned to Round Rock on May 13. In seven games with the Express, he hit .480 (12-25) with three 2B, two HRs and five RBIs. He drew three walks to four strikeouts.

Gimenez, 32, left last night's game in the seventh inning after hitting a single and is making his first appearance on the disabled list since June 2013 with the Triple-A Durham Bulls. On the season, Gimenez is batting .282 (24-85) with six 2B, three HRs and 12 RBIs in 24 games. He's seen action at C, 1B, 3B and DH.

Arroyo, 22, played four games with High-A High Desert this season going 4-15 (.267) with two extra-base hits.

Lacrus, 21, has spent the entire season in extended spring training.

The Express continue an eight-game homestand with game two of four against the Albuquerque Isotopes (Colorado Rockies affiliate) tonight at 7:05 p.m. Following the game, the Central Texas sky will light up with Bud Light Friday Fireworks.
