Streak Ends as Mudcats Shutout Pelicans

The Mudcats snapped their losing streak at 12 on Friday night

ZEBULON, NC - Carolina starter Seth Webster shutout the visiting Pelicans over seven full innings and led the Mudcats to a streak snapping 2-0 victory at Five County Stadium on Friday night. The win ended Carolina's franchise record tying losing streak at 12 consecutive games. Rehabbing Major Leaguer Joey Terdoslavich was 1-for-4 with a RBI in the victory.

Webster (1-1, 0.64) struck out six, walked two and held Myrtle Beach (29-16) to four hits over seven scoreless. He stranded five base runners and did not allow a runner to reach third in the victory.

Pelicans starter Duane Underwood Jr. (5-1, 1.60) suffered his first loss of the season after allowing two runs over six innings pitched. He started the game with two straight walks and gave up a run without allowing a hit in the opening inning. Underwood also allowed a RBI single to Terdoslavich in the third and left the game after the sixth with two walks, one strikeout and four hits allowed.

Keith Curcio scored the first run of the game after reaching on a leadoff walk. He later scored in the first on a groundout to third by Sal Giardina. Curcio scored again in the third after reaching on a double to start the inning. He moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and then scored on Terdoslavich's single to right.

Webster allowed just two base runners between the fifth and seventh and left the game with a 2-0 lead before the eighth and after throwing 95 pitches in the game. Matt Marksberry earned his first save of the season after pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth. He also struck out three over his two perfect innings.

The Mudcats managed to salvage a win in the series with Friday's victory and ended their franchise record tying losing streak at the same time. The Mudcats home stand continues on Saturday night with the Northern Division leading Wilmington Blue Rocks coming in for a five game series.

The first pitch of Saturday's game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and the game will feature a t-shirt giveaway presented by Berkshire Park Apartments. RHP Andrew Waszak (1-3, 3.94 ERA) will start on Saturday night for Carolina. RHP Jakob Junis (2-3, 3.44 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Blue Rocks in game one of the series.
