P-Nats' Kieboom and Pivetta Named 2015 Carolina League Mid-Season All-Stars

Potomac Nationals Catcher, Spencer Kieboom and Right-Handed Starting Pitcher, Nick Pivetta to Represent The Red, White, and Blue in '15 California League vs. Carolina League All-Star Game on June 23rd at LoanMart Field in Rancho Cucamonga, California
June 11, 2015

Zebulon, NC-- The Potomac Nationals are proud to announce C Spencer Kieboom and RHP Nick Pivetta have been named 2015 Carolina League Mid-Season All-Stars and the duo will represent the P-Nats in the 2015 California League vs. Carolina League All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 23rd at LoanMart Field, Home of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (Class-A Advanced Affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers), in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

Kieboom, 24, of Marietta, GA, has been chosen to his second professional All-Star Game after receiving South Atlantic League All-Star honors as a member of the Class-A Hagerstown Suns in 2014.

Kieboom, a 5th round selection by the Washington Nationals out of the 2012 MLB Draft, has thrown out 19 of 46 potential basestealers in 2015 (41.3%) which registers as the 2nd-best caught-stealing percentage in the Carolina League to complement a .989 fielding percentage (only four errors in 43 games).

The 6'1," 230-pound human backstop is the 2nd-hardest player to strike out in the CL this season with a 9.47 total plate appearances per strikeout ratio. Kieboom, a product of Clemson University (SC) has submitted a .258 batting average (39-for-151) in 44 contests.

Kieboom has scored 21 runs, ripped 11 doubles, cranked one triple, and belted one home run while driving in 15 run tallies.

Kieboom, the 21st ranked prospect in Washington's Minor League system per Baseball America entering the 2015 campaign, has totaled 55 bases, leads the P-Nats in walks (27) and on-base percentage (.367), and has struck out just 19 times in 2015. The stocky slugger has slugged .364 for an OPS of .731, and has lofted a pair of sacrifice flies.

Pivetta, 22, a native of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, like Kieboom, participates in his second pro All-Star Game after receiving mid-season honors with Hagerstown a season ago.

The Potomac Nationals' starting pitching ace, Pivetta has pitched to the lowest ERA among all qualifying Nationals' 2015 hurlers (2.39) while maintaining the smallest WHIP (1.21) on the P-Nats' staff.

The 6'5," 220-pound slinger has turned in the most innings pitched on the Nationals' stable (60.1) and has garnered the most strikeouts (48) among P-Nats' arms while earning a (4-4) win/loss record.

Pivetta, the Washington Nationals' #10 prospect according to Baseball America, has gunned through 11 appearances (10 starts) and has surrendered only three home runs over the duration of his 2015 journey with Potomac while holding the Carolina League to a meager .238 batting average.

The Major League prospect out of New Mexico Junior College (Hobbs, NM) has induced a staff-best eight double play balls and is (3-0) on the road in 2015 with an anemic 1.50 earned run average away from Pfitzner Stadium.
