Pigs and Bisons Split Twin Bill

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (24-43) and Buffalo Bisons (32-34) split a doubleheader at Coca-Cola Park on Tuesday night. The IronPigs captured game one by a score of 3-1 while Buffalo took the nightcap by an identical score.

Game One

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs picked up a 3-1 win over the Buffalo Bisons in the completion of Monday night's suspended game.

The IronPigs took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the home half of the first as Tyler Henson reached on a force out with one away, stole second, moved to third on a single and scored on Darin Ruf's RBI fielder's choice.

Ruf (1-4, 2 RBI) was playing his first game with Lehigh Valley in 2015.

In the third, Brian Bogusevic drew a two-out walk, stole second and scored on Ruf's RBI single to extend the Pigs lead to 2-0.

Both runs were surrendered by Bisons starter Felix Doubront (3.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) who took the loss and falls to 0-3 on the season.

Pigs starter Anthony Vasquez (n/d) allowed one hit over four shutout innings while walking two and fanning three.

With runners at the corners and two outs in the fourth, Henson delivered an RBI single to score Cord Phelps (2-4, 2 2B) and extend the Lehigh Valley lead to 3-0.

Buffalo put up an unearned run in the sixth to cut the lead to 3-1 as Jonathan Diaz drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on Steve Tolleson's RBI single.

On a rehab assignment from the Phillies, RHP Chad Billingsley (2-1) tossed three innings and allowed a run (none earned) on three hits while walking one.

LHP Jake Diekman (2.0 IP, H, 2 K) recorded the final six outs for Lehigh Valley to pick up his third save of the season.

Jordan Danks (2-4, 2B) also had a multi-hit game for the IronPigs.

Game Two

The Bisons took the nightcap by a score of 3-1 over the IronPigs on Tuesday night.

In the top of the second, Buffalo's Andy Burns led off with a single, moved to third on a single and scored when Ramon Santiago grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

The Bisons tacked on a pair of runs in the third against Pigs starter Severino Gonzalez to extend the lead to 3-0 as Matt Hague plated a run with an RBI single and Burns reached on a throwing error from Chase d'Arnaud which allowed Caleb Gindl to score.

In the home half of the same frame, Blake Forsythe (1-2, 2B, R) started the inning for the IronPigs with a double and later scored on Henson's (1-3, RBI) two-out RBI single.

With runners in scoring position and two outs this season, Henson is now hitting .565 (13-23).

Gonzalez (1-4) took the loss after surrendering three runs (two earned) on seven hits to go along with a walk and three strikeouts over five innings of work.

LHP Adam Loewen (2.0 IP, H, BB, 4 K) tossed a pair of scoreless frames in relief for the Pigs.

LHP Jeff Francis (2-0) got the win for Buffalo as he gave up one run on three hits while fanning five over 6.0 IP. RHP Bobby Korecky (1.0 IP, H) fired a scoreless ninth to notch his third save of the year.

The series continues on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. as Pigs LHP Adam Morgan (0-6, 4.61) takes on fellow southpaw Randy Wolf (5-1, 2.70).
