IronBirds Drop Fourth Straight

Vermont uses big sixth to pace first win
June 22, 2015
Summary:
The Vermont Lake Monsters used six runs in the sixth inning to set the tone for their 9-1 victory over the Aberdeen IronBirds on Monday night. The IronBirds drop their fourth consecutive game to start off the season, while the Lake Monsters earned their first win.
Trading Runs On Errors:
A pair of errors led to the first two runs of the game, as Vermont scored on an RBI double from Shawn Duinkerk after Chris Iriart reached on an error by Steve Laurino. Laurino lost the ball in the setting sun, allowing Iriart to reach.
The IronBirds benefited from an error themselves when Mikey White threw a ball away at short with two outs allowing Aberdeen to tie things up at one.
Six in the Sixth:
After pitching dominated early on, the Lake Monsters sent 11 men to the plate and scored six runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-1 lead. The inning began with back-to-back home runs from Lana Akau and Skye Bolt to give Vermont a 3-1 lead. Three more runs would score before the IronBirds could record an out, two of which were the result of wild pitches and another on an passed ball. Gabriel Santana capped off the inning with an RBI single.
Two More For Good Measure:
The lead was extended in the seventh when Iriart doubled home a pair of runs to push Vermont's lead to eight.
Bird Watching:
The IronBirds have started the season 0-4 for the second straight season, last year they started 0-5... Jerry McClanahan threw out his first professional baserunner... Baserunners are 1-for-4 against IronBirds catchers so for this season... The IronBirds have scored five runs in the first four games and finished their second straight game without an RBI.
