Cron's Moonshot Lifts Salt Lake Past Vegas

June 25, 2015

SALT LAKE CITY (JUNE 24) - The Salt Lake Bees rallied past the Las Vegas 51s in the eighth inning on a booming three-run home run by C.J. Cron to take game two of the series 5-4 on Wednesday night. With the score 4-2 Las Vegas, Ryan Jackson and Gary Brown walked to start the inning. Then on a 1-2 pitch, Cron hit a moonshot over the left field fence off of 51s pitcher Vic Black (0-1) to put the Bees on top.

"(Black)'s a good pitcher. Anytime you are at that count you try to just put it into play and control your aggressiveness," said Cron. "Luckily, I saw it out of his hand early and was able to put a good swing on it."

Cory Rasmus started on the mound for Salt Lake in the third outing of his injury rehabilitation assignment from the Angels. In just two innings of work, Rasmus struck out five of the six men he faced. Jo Jo Reyes then entered, giving up all four Las Vegas runs on six hits while striking out two in three and two-thirds innings. Mike Morin (1-0), also with the Bees on an injury rehabilitation assignment from the Angels, earned the win for Salt Lake, striking out two in one inning pitched. Vinnie Pestano pitched a spotless ninth inning to earn the save. Gary Brown aided the Bees cause at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

The Bees remain home until June 29 with game three against Las Vegas on Thursday, June 25, before four-game set against the Albuquerque Isotopes. Promotions include Bees replica batting helmets on Friday, June 26, and Bees Baseball Card set giveaway on June 27. For tickets and for more information, visit www.slbees.com.
