Suns Take Second Half Opener From Shuckers 6-2

Jacksonville's Dayleg Finishes 3-for-4 HR, 4 RBI, Tomshaw Seven Stellar Innings in Start for Suns

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns (1-0, 30-40) took the series and second half opener from the Biloxi Shuckers (0-1, 43-26) 6-2 Thursday night from Bragan Field.

Matt Tomshaw (W, 3-4) hurled seven frames surrendering one run (earned) on three hits while walking two and striking out a pair of batters in his start for Jacksonville. Shuckers starter Brent Suter (L, 4-3) manufactured five innings surrendering two runs (both earned) on eight hits while walking one and striking out a solo batter.

The scoring would begin in the top of the fourth after Suns starter Tomshaw relinquished a walk and a single to start of the frame, then to offer up a RBI sacrifice fly to Biloxi's Tyrone Taylor to give the Shuckers a 1-0 lead.

To the bottom of the frame the Suns responded when Austin Nola led off with a double, to then get knocked in two batters later by Matt Juengel's run-scoring triple to tie the score at one.

In the fifth Jacksonville broke the tie via Kenny Wilson's RBI single making it a 2-1 score.

In the last of the sixth, against Shuckers reliever Martin Viramontes, Viosergy Rosa and David Adams reached base courtesy of a single and a walk respectively, then Terrence Dayleg (HR, 1) blasted a three-run shot over the left field wall to clear the bases and provide the Suns with a 5-1 advantage.

To the seventh Dayleg manufactured his fourth RBI after his run-scoring base knock brought home a run and gave the Suns a 6-1 advantage.

Flashing to the eighth Biloxi's Josh Fellhauer (HR, 1) blasted a solo shot off of Suns reliever Craig stem to make it a 6-2 ballgame.

The Suns and Shuckers will continue their series on Friday night with a first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. ET from Bragan Field. The Suns will send out right-hander Jake Esch (5-4, 3.65 ERA) while the Shuckers will counter with righty Tyler Wagner (5-2, 2.43 ERA).
