2015 San Jose Giants Tyler Beede and Keury Mella Selected to All-Star Futures Game

Pitchers will participate with other MLB top prospects on July 12 in Cincinnati

San Jose, CA - 2015 San Jose Giants California League All-Star right-handed starting pitchers Tyler Beede and Keury Mella have been named to the 17th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game which will take place on Sunday, July 12 at Great American Ball Park, the home of the Cincinnati Reds. Beede was selected to participate with the U.S. All-Star Futures Team, while Mella will join the World All-Star Futures Team.

Before being promoted to Double-A Richmond on June 4, Tyler Beede was the leader of a San Jose Giants pitching staff that currently boasts the third-best team ERA in the California League. In nine starts with San Jose, the San Francisco Giants 2014 First Round Pick went 2-2 with a 2.24 ERA. Over 52 1/3 innings, Beede struck out 37 and walked just nine. In his final start with San Jose on May 30, he struck out 11 over seven scoreless innings.

Mella, who signed with the San Francisco Giants as a Free Agent in 2011, has been impressive on the hill as well for San Jose. His 2.95 ERA currently ranks as one of the best among starters in the San Francisco Giants farm system. He is third on the team in strikeouts (54) and is currently holding opponents to a .241 batting average.

The San Jose Giants continue the opening homestand of the second half at Municipal Stadium at 7:00 PM Friday with Postgame Fireworks following the final out. On Saturday, fans will also see the sky light up above Municipal Stadium courtesy of IBEW 332. On Sunday, the series concludes with First Responders Appreciation Day. The team will celebrate the policemen, firemen, EMTs, paramedics and all the brave men and women who serve and protect our community.
