June 27, 2015

Bowling Green, Ky. - Bowling Green All-Star first baseman Casey Gillaspie has been promoted to High-A Charlotte (FSL), as announced by the Rays on Saturday.

In a corresponding transaction, third baseman Carter Burgess has been added to Bowling Green to set the roster at 25 players.

Gillaspie powered through Midwest League pitching over 64 games played, raking at a .278 clip with a league-best 16 home runs - including seven over his final 17 games - which also ranks as the third-highest single-season total in Bowling Green franchise history. Last year's 20th overall selection in the First-Year Player Draft also exits second in the league in total bases (124), third in slugging percentage (.530), tied for third in extra-base hits (27) and tied for fourth in the loop in RBI (44).

Burgess, a 28th round pick by Tampa Bay in 2014 out of Sam Houston State, spent six games in High-A Charlotte after being transferred from Extended Spring Training. The 6-1, 200 pounder enjoyed a solid rookie campaign last year, hitting .307 with Princeton (APP) while smacking a pair of home runs with 17 RBI, totaling 79 bases over 53 games.
