Comeback Falls One-Run Shy in 6-5 Loss

Modesto, CA. - The Modesto Nuts scored four runs in the final two innings but came up shy in a 6-5 loss against the San Jose Giants on Saturday night at Municipal Stadium.

The Nuts (35-37; 2-1) entered the eighth down 6-1, but Zach Osborne scored on a double-play groundball in the frame to start the comeback.

In the ninth, against the Giants' (31-42; 1-2) closer Dan Slania, Rosell Herrera started the rally with a one-out double. Ashley Graeter followed with a RBI single, one of his three hits and two RBI. Dillon Thomas added a single that was misplayed in left allowing Graeter to score and moving Thomas to third. Osborne drove in Thomas with a RBI groundout before Slania got Cesar Galvez to end the game.

Alex Balog (L, 0-1) started for the Nuts and gave up five consecutive hits in the second to allow three runs to score. Daniel Carbonell added a solo homer in the fourth. Balog finished after 4.2 innings with eight hits and four runs allowed without walking a batter and striking out three.

Midseason All-Star Chase Johnson (W, 4-3) worked 6.1 innings and struck out seven with no walks while allowing just a RBI single to Graeter.
