Captains pilot Independence Day duel, 5-1

July 4, 2015

Lansing, Mich. - Dawel Lugo's fourth-inning home run was the Lansing Lugnuts' only firework in a 5-1 loss to the Lake County Captains in front of a season-high 11,103 fans Saturday from Cooley Law School Stadium.

Lansing had six hits - three against Anderson Polanco (Win, 4-6).

The Captains' starter knocked off Lansing's Jesus Tinoco (Loss, 1-5), who allowed three runs and nine hits over five innings.

Tinoco has given up three or fewer runs in seven of his last eight outings.

Colton Turner relieved and allowed one hit in three scoreless frames, his longest outing since May 29 against the Dragons.

Phil Kish took over and gave up two runs in the ninth. Kish, Lansing's closer at the start of the season, was returned from Class A-Advanced Dunedin Thursday.

Lugo's home run brought Lansing within a run in the fourth. The shortstop has a double, a home run, and five hits in his first eight at-bats with the Lugnuts.

The Lugnuts continue their Independence Day weekend with three more games at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Sunday's game against the Captains at 2:05 p.m. is a Kids Day presented by Delta Dental. Also, enjoy your Sunday with free hot dogs.

On the mound, Conor Fisk (0-0, 9.00 ERA) makes his first MWL start against lefty Thomas Pannone (4-2, 3.63).
