B-Mets Rock 'Cats, 7-0

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets enjoyed their largest shutout win of the season, beating New Britain, 7-0, Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Seth Lugo pitched six two-hit innings to earn his first win in 10 starts, while all eight position players reached base for the B-Mets. Gavin Cecchini and Brandon Nimmo each had three hits, while Xorge Carrillo drove in the first two runs of the game.

Brett Marshall retired the first five batters he faced, before Carrillo took him deep, driving his fourth home run of the year beyond the left field wall. It was the first time Binghamton has scored before their opponent on the homestand, taking their first lead in 21 innings.

It remained a one run game to the bottom of the fourth, when Nimmo led off with a single. After a one-out walk to Lawley, Carrillo placed a fly ball inside the foul line in right field for an RBI double. Jared King followed with a two RBI double to center one batter later.

Leading 4-0, Binghamton added on against Marshall just one inning later. Cecchini led off with a single, advanced to second on a groundout, and came around to score on a Nimmo single to center field.

Facing Jose Ortega in the seventh, Binghamton mounted another rally. LJ Mazzilli drew a one out walk in front of another Nimmo single. Josh Rodriguez then capped the scoring by driving both men in with a double to left. Rodriguez was one of three Mets with multiple RBI, along with Carrillo and King.

Binghamton went in order in the first inning, before getting a man on in every other fame. The B-Mets scored in four of their eight at-bats.

Lugo worked the first six innings, before Matt Koch and Akeel Morris combined to finish out the shutout, allowing one combined hit in the last three frames.

Lugo (3-4) allowed two hits in his six innings, earning his first win in 10 starts. Marshall (1-4) matched season-high's with seven hits and five runs allowed, lasting five innings in the losing effort.   

The B-Mets (42-41) continue their series with the New Britain Rock Cats Wednesday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Gabriel Ynoa gets the ball against RHP Shane Carle. POSTGAME NOTES: It was the B-Mets seventh shutout of the season…Binghamton has won their first four home games against New Britain for the second straight season…Binghamton has won five straight Tuesday games and are 11-3 on Tuesday's overall, their best record for any day of the week…Lugo's nine start winless drought was the longest of his career.
