Barons Complete Five-Game Sweep of Generals

Birmingham wins sixth consecutive, improves to 14-3 in second half

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Barons (47-39, 14-3) claimed a 2-0 win over the Generals (35-51, 6-12) Monday afternoon, completing their first five-game sweep of the season. It was the second shutout of the road trip for Birmingham.

Starting pitcher Myles Jaye (9-3, 2.38 ERA) picked up his league-leading ninth win of the year. The right-hander threw five innings, allowing just three hits while striking out four. Jaye has not allowed a run in four consecutive starts, and ran his scoreless-inning streak to 25 innings - 32 without an earned run.

The only two runs the Barons needed scored in the third and fourth innings. Both scored against Jackson starter Misael Siviero (4-8, 4.10 ERA) as the lefty gave up five hits through 5.2 innings pitched. Nicky Delmonico plated the first run with a sacrifice fly, and the second run crossed on a Rob Brantly single.

Brantly, along with outfielder Keenyn Walker, each recorded three hits Monday. Brantly was 3-for-4 with a double and RBI, while Walker was 3-for-3. Brantly also extended his hitting streak to six games.

With the win, Birmingham moved ahead of second-place Tennessee and Montgomery by 5.5 games in the Southern League North second half standings. The Smokies and Biscuits are scheduled to play later Sunday evening. Overall, the Barons find themselves tied with Chattanooga for the second-best overall record in the league, just 0.5 games behind first-place Tennessee (47-38).

ON DECK
The Barons return to Regions Field July 15 to open up a five-game home stand against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Pensacola is currently tied for second in the Southern League South standings with a 10-7 record.
