Barons Win Seventh Straight Game

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Barons (48-39, 15-3) ran their win streak to seven straight games by defeating the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (36-51, 11-8) 14-8 Wednesday night at Regions Field.

Birmingham set a season high in runs with the 14-run outburst. In all, six Barons crossed the plate on 16 hits. The 14 runs represent the seventh time this season that Birmingham has scored more than 10 runs.

The Barons clubbed two home runs in the second inning and improved to 38-3 when scoring first. Rob Brantly notched his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot. Brantly extended his hitting streak to seven games with his fourth three-hit game of the year.

Keenyn Walker hit his first home run of the year, drove in four runs and crossed the plate three times. Walker recorded his second three-hit game and his first four-RBI game on the year.

The Barons chased Pensacola's starter Josh Smith (4-2) after 3.2 innings, which was his shortest outing of the season at Double-A. Birmingham's offense also tagged Smith for six runs, which is tied for the most runs he has given up in a start in 2015.

Tyler Danish (7-5) earned his third consecutive win for the Barons. He pitched 6.0 innings and gave up four runs (three earned), while striking out four.

ON DECK
The Barons and Blue Wahoos will play game two of the five-game set on Thursday night. Mark Blackmar (3-4, 3.32 ERA) will get the start for Birmingham, while Pensacola will counter with Barrett Astin (1-0, 2.95 ERA).
