Hillsboro's Reed loses perfect game on a Happ double in seventh

EUGENE, Ore. - The Eugene Emeralds were shut out for the second straight night in a 2-0 loss to Hillsboro in front of 3,643 fans on Friday night at PK Park.

Hillsboro starter Cody Reed took a perfect game into the seventh inning when Ian Happ laced a two-out double to left center. Reed (4-1) picked up the win after allowing just the one hit in seven innings with seven strikeouts and no walks. He lowered his ERA to 1.31 on the season. The Hops have a Northwest League-leading 2.73 team ERA.

In addition to his seventh inning double, Happ singled in the ninth as well and is hitting .423 over his last six games.

Eugene (15-14) starter Preston Morrison went two innings with one run allowed on four hits while reliever Greyfer Eregua surrendered just one hit over five innings with six strikeouts.

The Hops jumped out to an early lead in the first inning as they tallied three straight two-out singles to drive in a run. Hillsboro plated another run in the eighth on a single by Trevor Mitsui.

Notes: Preston Morrison made his first professional start for the Emeralds…He was an eighth-round pick out of TCU…Francisco Carillo was released prior to Friday's game and former Cal State Fullerton pitcher Tyler Peitzmeier, a ninth-round pick in 2015, was added to the roster.
