Montas Tabbed Pitcher of the Week

White Sox No. 1 pitching prospect earns two-hit Sunday win
July 20, 2015

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Barons hurler Frankie Montas (3-1, 2.31 ERA) was named Southern League Pitcher of the Week for July 13-19 by the league office Monday morning.

The White Sox No. 2 prospect earned his third win in his last three decisions Sunday with a two-hit performance against Pensacola. Montas threw five innings of the 11-3 win over the Blue Wahoos, striking out eight batters and giving up just one walk.

Along with his win against Pensacola in the five-game series finale, the right-hander also earned a call-up to Chicago along the way. Montas was added to the White Sox roster for their July 17 doubleheader against the Royals. Despite being named the 26th man for the Kansas City games, Montas did not make his Major League Baseball debut Friday.

The Southern League Pitcher of the Week award for Montas is the first weekly honor garnered by a Baron this season. The No. 2 pitching prospect in the Chicago can add the award to his 2015 list of achievements, along with being named a Southern League Mid-Season All-Star and 2015 All-Star Futures Game participant.

Montas was previously named Pitcher of the Week by the Carolina League May 26, 2014 as a member of the Winston Salem Dash.
