McBroom, Fisk star in 2-1 Lugs win

Lansing, Mich. - Ryan McBroom blasted a two-run home run in the sixth to set up Conor Fisk's first Midwest League win, 2-1, in the opener of a three-game series between the Lansing Lugnuts (12-14, 54-42) and Bowling Green Hot Rods (14-12, 51-45) Tuesday at Cooley Law School Stadium.

McBroom jacked a shot on the grass in left to break a scoreless game and score Jason Leblebijian. The All-Star's blast against Yonny Chirinos (Loss, 2-1) marked the first runs the starter allowed in 23 innings. 

Conor Fisk (Win 1-2) exited after 6.2 innings, struck out five, and allowed five hits and one run.  

Tim Mayza (Save, 3) took over and got out of a jam to keep Fisk in line for the win. Mayza stranded runners on the corners in the seventh by striking out Riley Unroe.

The lefty left a runner at first and struck out two in the eighth before setting down Bowling Green in order in the ninth.

Over 2.2 IP, the lefty Mayza struck out four and gave up two hits and one walk.

In the winning cause for the Lugnuts, three different Lugnuts tallied two-hit games - Josh Almonte, Michael De La Cruz, and D.J. Davis.

Almonte has ten multi-hit games this season, four in the last ten games.

Meanwhile, De La Cruz has upped his average over .200 for the first time this season. The catcher has raised his average from .118 to .202 over his last 15 games.

Davis continues to rip the ball at Cooley Law School Stadium, batting .344 at home.

The second game between the division foes is at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday. Check out Hump Day Featuring Humphrey the Camel and Summer Fun Day, with local day camps at the park. Starlyn Suriel (5-6, 3.83) toes the rubber as the Lugs get their first look against righty Hyrum Formo (4-3, 4.60).
