Aberdeen Takes Series Against State College

IronBirds take another one-run victory

Summary

The IronBirds defeated the State College Spikes 2-1 on Wednesday night. The IronBirds trailed by a run before scoring two in the seventh to give Aberdeen the win.

Starting Early

The Spikes took the 1-0 lead in the second inning. RJ Dennard doubled to right field scoring Josh Swirchak from first base.

Fashionably Late

DJ Stewart and Randy Gassaway led off the seventh inning with back-to-back singles. Steve Laurino singled up the middle, driving home Stewart, tying the game at one. Randy Gassaway advanced first to third on the hit, and Laurino moved to second on the throw home. Drew Turbin then collected an RBI, scoring Gassaway from third, on a ground out to first base. Turbin gave the IronBirds the 2-1 lead.

Theft Protection

Three runners were caught stealing, all on throws from the catchers. Jesse Jenner threw two IronBirds out and Jerry McClanahan was able to catch one Spike stealing.

Bird Watching

Robert Strader made his first professional start…Strader pitched two innings, allowed three hits, one run, and struck out two batters…Patrick Baker earned his first win of the season with one hit, two walks, and three strikeouts in two innings… Steve Laurino collected his team leading 13 RBI of the season on a single that tied the game... The IronBirds won another one-run game, making their record 6-6 in games decided by one.
