Chirinos carves up Whitecaps

July 28, 2015

BOWLING GREEN, KY - Yonny Chirinos and the Bowling Green Hot Rods didn't allow a runner to move past first base as they defeated the West Michigan Whitecaps by a score of 2-0 Tuesday at Bowling Green Ballpark.

Bowling Green scored their first run on Tommy Milone's RBI-double to score Mac James and give the Hot Rods a 1-0 lead. From that point on, Chirinos (3-1) dominated, holding the Whitecaps to just four base hits and striking out five in earning his third win of the season. James added an insurance run with a seventh-inning sacrifice fly to finish the scoring at 2-0.

Ross Seaton (9-5) suffered a tough-luck loss for West Michigan, pitching 6.1 innings allowing just two runs while striking out three. The Whitecaps have scored just nine runs in their last five games, averaging 1.8 runs per contest during that time. The Whitecaps fall to 18-13 in the season's second half, bringing their overall record to 51-49. Bowling Green improves to 17-15 this half, with a combined record of 54-48.

Tuesday's Whitecaps-Hot Rods contest was the fastest nine-inning game that West Michigan has played all season, lasting just 2:06. The previous record was 2:08 set on July 15 in a 2-1 win over Dayton.
