The Mudcats improved to 10-0 against the Keys with a 5-2 win
July 30, 2015

ZEBULON, NC - Seth Webster struck out seven, Joseph Odom was 2-for-3 with a game tying single, Connor Lien scored twice and Justin Jackson pitched two and 1/3 scoreless in relief as the Mudcats finished a three game sweep of the Keys with a 5-2 win on Thursday night at Five County Stadium.

The Carolina (52-52, 18-17) victory was their third straight against the visiting Keys (49-56, 17-18) and marked their third straight comeback win in the series. The Mudcats improved to 10-0 this season against the Keys with the win and it came in front of 5,014 fans at Five County Stadium.

The visiting Keys led first after getting a run across against Webster (W, 6-6, 2.94) in the opening frame, but the Mudcats did the same in the bottom side to tie it. Lien started the Carolina first with a bunt hit and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Dustin Peterson off Frederick starter Luis Gonzalez and the game was tied 1-1 after one.

Gonzalez (L, 5-8, 6.51) and Webster kept it at 1-1 until the Keys rallied for a run in the second on a sacrifice fly by Chance Sisco. Sisco also had a RBI sac fly in the first and was 0-for-2 with two RBI in the loss for the Keys.

The Mudcats trailed 2-1 through five before getting three two out runs in the sixth against Gonzalez and reliever Jimmy Yacabonis. Jacob Schrader started the rally with a two-out single to center and Carlos Franco kept it going with a single to right. Schrader moved from first to third on Franco's single and scored moments later on a two-strike, game tying single to left by Odom. Yacabonis then took over for Gonzalez in the inning after Odom's single and allowed both inherited runners to score. He allowed Franco in on a wild pitch and allowed a run scoring single to Joey Meneses.

Gonzalez finished his start with seven strikeouts and walked only one over five and 2/3 innings. He was also charged with three earned runs and four total while suffering the loss.

Webster pitched into the seventh and left with a man on and with the Mudcats leading 4-2. Justin Jackson followed Webster and stranded his inherited runner while finishing the inning. Webster allowed just two runs and struck out seven over six and 2/3 innings pitched while earning the victory.

Jackson (S, 2) took over for Webster in the seventh and finished the game while holding the Keys without a hit and without a run. He pitched two and 1/3 scoreless innings and struck out three while earning his second save of the season. Jackson struck out Tanner Witt to end the seventh and left the inning with Josh Hart left at first base. Hart was 3-for-4 in the Keys' loss; all four of his hits came against Webster.

Both the Winston-Salem Dash and Myrtle Beach Pelicans won their respective games as well on Thursday night. Therefore, the Mudcats remain 4.5 games behind the Dash and 2.0 games back of the Pelicans in the second half standings. Carolina next plays in Wilmington on Friday night with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
