Anderson shines despite Barons' loss

White Sox No. 1 prospect scores three runs, swipes three bags
August 9, 2015

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Tim Anderson and the Barons' offense totaled seven runs on nine hits Saturday night in Pensacola, Fla., but despite scoring early and a couple of big innings, the Blue Wahoos were able to chip away at the Birmingham bullpen to claim an 8-7 victory.

The second win of the series for the Wahoos tarnished Anderson's tremendous night at the plate and on the base paths. The White Sox No. 1 prospect was 2-for-4 on the evening with a trio of runs scored and stolen bases. It was the third occasion the speedy shortstop swiped three bags in a game and 10th multi-steals game of 2015.

Tied 1-1 in the third, Nicky Delmonico lined a two-run homer to right-center and Joey DeMichele tripled home two more run to give the Barons a 5-1 advantage. Pensacola answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to pull within one, but Delmonico struck again with an RBI-single in the fourth, and Danny Hayes brought home a run in the fourth to push Birmingham's lead to 7-4.

The Barons' troubles began in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Blue Wahoos mounted a comeback against starter Robinson Leyer. The right-hander gave up a two-run homer to Yovan Gonzalez in the fourth to put Birmingham's lead within one, and Ryan Wright tied the game with a sacrifice fly against reliever Kyle Hansen in the sixth.

Pensacola plated its final run, which proved to be the game-winning run, in the eighth inning against Birmingham's second reliever Tyler Barnette. Barnette (5-4, 2.01 ERA) was charged with the loss as Bryson Smith doubled home Beau Amaral to put the Wahoos up 8-7 in the eighth.

Blue Wahoos reliever Zack Weiss recorded his 17th save of the season by striking out the side in the ninth, ensuring a win for righty reliever Miguel Celestino (1-0, 1.69 ERA).
