Green's Big Fly Leads Erie to Victory
The SeaWolves fell behind early on Friday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium but battle back, taking down the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5-4.
The Fisher Cats jumped ahead in the bottom of the first against Erie starter Chad Green. Roeman Fields led off with a walk and stole second. With one out, Fields scored when Melky Mesa reached on an error, giving the Cats a 1-0 lead. Ryan Schimpf then doubled putting two on for Emilio Guerrero. With the infield in, Guerrero grounded to third and Alberto Gonzalez threw out Mesa trying to score. K.C. Hobson followed with an infield single that allowed two runs to score, giving the Cats a 3-0 lead.
Erie got on the board in the fourth against Fisher Cats starter Casey Lawrence. Jason Krizan led off with a single and stole second. He moved to third on a Dean Green infield hit and scored on a Dominic Ficociello sacrifice fly to center, making it a 3-1 game.
The 'Wolves closed the gap in the sixth when JaCoby Jones connected on an opposite-field solo home run, his fifth, making it a one-run game.
Erie tied the game in the seventh. With one out, Miguel Gonzalez doubled for his third hit of the night. He scored on an Alberto Gonzalez double, making it a 3-3 game.
The SeaWolves then took the lead in the top of the eighth. Lawrence gave up a leadoff double to Krizan and was lifted after inducing a fly out off the bat of Jones. Dustin Antolin was then summoned from the bullpen to face Green. Green clobbered a go-ahead, two run home run making it a 5-3 Erie lead. The home run for Green was his 15th.
The Cats got one back in the last of the eighth against reliever Montreal Robertson when Schimph homered to right to make it 5-4.
Paul Voelker tossed a 1-2-3 ninth, earning his seventh save in eight tries.
Robertson (2-3) earned the win allowing a run on two hits with no walks and two strikeouts in 2.1 innings.
Green took the no-decision allowing three runs, one earned, on three this with four walks and six strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.
