Rangers Sign Drew Stubbs, Assign to Round Rock

Former Texas Longhorn Star Joins Express

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers have signed OF Drew Stubbs to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Round Rock the club announced Monday. He is expected to be in the lineup at Dell Diamond tonight as they play game two of four against the Salt Lake Bees (Anaheim Angels affiliate) at 7:05 p.m.

Stubbs, 30, hit .243 (58-239) in 89 games split between the Colorado Rockies and their Triple-A affiliate Albuquerque this season. He was designated for assignment on August 12 and cleared release waivers to become a free agent on Saturday. He was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the first round (8th overall) of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

The Texas native was a three-time All-American in baseball as a member of the Texas Longhorns baseball team. He was a member of the Team USA team that took gold in the 2004 FISU II World University Championship in Taiwan. In 2006, Stubbs was the Longhorns' co-MVP, Big 12 co-Player of the Year and one of five finalists for the Golden Spikes Award.

In a corresponding move, OF Diego Cedeno has been transferred to rookie Spokane.

The Express continue an eight-game homestand tonight with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch against the Bees.
