Crabs rally to beat Mets 5-2 in rain-shortened game

New doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday at 4 p.m.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (August 31, 2015) - The Charlotte Stone Crabs rallied to defeat the St. Lucie Mets 5-2 in a rain-shortened game 1 of Monday's doubleheader at Tradition Field.
 
Rain halted the game in the top of the sixth and the contest did not resume due to inclement weather. The teams will now play a doubleheader on Tuesday to complete the three-game series. Game 1 on Tuesday begins at 4 p.m. Gates will open at 3:30 p.m. Each game is scheduled for seven innings.
 
Fans with tickets to Monday's rain out can exchange those tickets for any remaining game this season. For $1, fans can upgrade to Saturday's fireworks game.
 
The Mets got off to a quick start by taking a 2-0 lead in the third inning. The Mets loaded the bases against Buddy Borden with two walks and a single. Jeff McNeil hit a RBI sac fly and Victor Cruzado followed with an RBI single.
 
Mets starter Michael Gibbons shut out the Stone Crabs through the first four innings but ran into trouble in the fifth. Granden Goetzman started the frame with a single and was driven in a double by Justin William. Armando Ariaza then doubled home Williams to tie the game 2-2.
 
Braxton Lee dropped down a bunt that Gibbons fielded and threw wildly into the visiting bullpen. Araiza scored from second and Lee made it to third base. Hector Guevara dropped in a single that plated Lee to make it 4-2 Stone Crabs.
 
Jace Conrad and Goetzman started the top of the sixth with back-to-back doubles that put the Crabs up 5-2. After Williams singled, the game was stopped with storms approaching.
 
Gibbons suffered his first FSL defeat. He allowed five runs, four earned, on 10 hits.
 
Borden won his ninth game. He limited the Mets to two runs in five innings.
 
Yeixon Ruiz, McNeil, Cruzado and Maikis De La Cruz had the four hits for the Mets.
 
St. Lucie is now 66-66 overall and 31-31 in the second half. The Stone Crabs are 67-63.
