August 31, 2015

To open the Quad Cities River Bandits' final regular season home series Wednesday, all veterans and their families may purchase general admission tickets to the 7 p.m. game at the River Bandits box office for $1 each, and all veterans may ride the Ferris wheel for free, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of V-J Day, the formal ending of World War II.

"We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to our veterans and their families for the many sacrifices and contributions they have made to our country and the world, and this Wednesday, we want to take an opportunity, in some small way, to say thank you," said River Bandits owner Dave Heller. "We all live, work and raise our families in a world that has been forever changed because of the heroic men and women who have proudly worn our nation's uniform."

Gates open at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and all-you-can-ride amusement passes are $10 each. On the final Pay Your Bill Wednesday presented by Mix 96, fans may enter copies of their unpaid bills into a drawing, and the River Bandits will select and pay two bills up to $100 each.

Wednesday marks the River Bandits' first September home game since they won the Midwest League Championship Sept. 14, 2013. The River Bandits play their final regular season home games Thursday and Friday - both at 7 p.m. - and begin the Midwest League playoffs Wednesday, Sept. 9, in Cedar Rapids, before their first home playoff game Thursday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. at Modern Woodmen Park.

ABOUT THE BANDITS: With the installation of the Ferris Wheel, the River Bandits ownership in 2014 made one of the biggest improvements to Modern Woodmen Park since the ballpark was first built back in 1931, and this year the club is matching that effort by opening three new areas. A two-tiered special group deck immediately behind and overlooking the corn field opened in June. A new 11,000-square-foot concourse expansion down the third-base line will open late August. Finally, the club has expanded the children's play area by an additional 5,500 square feet down the right-field line, with additional bounce houses and the newest ride - Spin Zone Bumper Cars - as the latest attraction.
